The 104th annual meeting of the Texas Forestry Association (TFA) Oct. 17-19 at Moody Gardens in Galveston provided a full agenda of educational and informative presentations, entertainment, plus the association’s annual presentation of awards.
During the awards ceremony, Bird and Crawford Forestry was named the TFA 2018 Outstanding Member Communicator. Linda Moon, TFA Communications Committee Chair, made the award presentation noting, “This consulting forestry group has publicized through the company’s e-newsletter not only events and meetings held by TFA, but also the events of the Texas Forestry Museum. With this newsletter, Bird and Crawford expanded TFA’s reach and provided information about educational opportunities to their clients.”

“The group of professional foresters help clients achieve land management goals, which include wildlife, recreation, forest productions, environmental or conservation opportunities and possible alternate revenue sources through natural resources or alternative forest products.”
“The award, given annually, recognizes the contributions of a TFA member who has furthered the work of the communications of the association and the forestry sector through their own communications efforts.”
Another highlight of the meeting was the organization’s “Project Learning Tree” (PLT) fundraisers netting a total of $11,200. The PLT program continues to set the standard for environmental education excellence at the elementary, middle and secondary levels. PLT increases students’ understanding of our complex environment and is designed to teach “how to think, not what to think” about environmental issues.
At Thursday’s golf tournament, Bird and Crawford Forestry’s Mark Brian placed third on his team, while TerraStone Land Company’s Bradley Wilson took first place on his team.
The Galveston meeting concluded Bird and Crawford Forestry CEO Mike Bird’s year as president-elect. He will serve the state association as president for the next year.
Bird and Crawford Forestry was a sponsor of the annual meeting and affiliate company TerraStone Land Company sponsored the golf tournament. Next year’s annual meeting will be in Nacogdoches.
Texas Forestry Association, the voice for forestry for more than 100 years, promotes an economic, social and political climate that will advance forestry in Texas through education, political action and public relations, as well as serving the broad needs of the forest resource of landowners, producers and consumers, and to enhance and perpetuate the Texas forest resource.
